Wreaths Across America’s (WAA) mission of remembering our fallen U.S. veterans, honoring those who serve, and teaching our children the value of freedom is carried out throughout the year. Through the Remembrance Tree program to the Wreaths Across America Museum in Maine, they raise money to coordinate wreath-laying ceremonies each December on National Wreaths Across America Day at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as at more than 3,700 locations in all 50 U.S. states, at sea, and abroad.
The wreath-laying, held annually on the second or third Saturday of December, is kicked off with WAA's annual convoy from Harrington, Maine to Arlington National Cemetery. It's become known as the world’s largest veterans’ parade, stopping at schools, monuments, veterans’ homes, and communities all along the way to remind people how important it is to remember, honor, and teach.
Wreaths Across America and its national network of volunteers laid more than 2,700,000 veterans' wreaths at locations in the United States and beyond, including ceremonies in Puerto Rico, Guam, Cuba, and Virgin Islands. This was accomplished with help from more than 2,000 sponsorship groups, corporate contributions, and donations of trucking, shipping, and thousands of helping hands. The organization's goal of covering Arlington National Cemetery was met in 2014 with the placement of 226,525 wreaths.
Why they do what they do - Wreaths Across America understands there is Veterans Day in the fall and Memorial Day in the spring, but the nation’s service members sacrifice their time and safety every single day of the year to preserve our freedoms.Â
